Homemade laundry powder detergent

Homemade laundry soap easy,
cheap and effective!

1. With Fels Naptha


For people who prefer not to use commercial
laundry detergents,there are other options that will
get clothes clean and keep them fresh.
Fels-Naptha soap has been used for decades, and
when combined with a few other ingredients, it can
make inexpensive and effective laundry
detergent. Powder and liquid detergent containing Fels-Naptha are equally
effective and safe for high-efficiency washing machines.


Fels-Naptha, washing soda and borax can be found in the laundry and cleaning aisle
of supermarkets and discount stores. Save time by making large batches.

Powder Detergent Open one bar of Fels-Naptha soap and allow it to dry for up to two weeks, making it easier to process. Grate the Fels-Naptha soap into a fine powder, using a metal cheese grater or food processor. Combine the grated soap with 2 cups washing soda and 2 cups borax. Store the powder detergent in a glass or plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. Mix the detergent before measuring 2 tbsp. powder for each load of laundry.

                      Recipe

1 cup flour
1 cup boiling water
2 tbsp. cream of tartar (a powder you can buy at HEB and other stores)
1/2 cup salt
1 tbsp. oil
Food coloring
optional: vanilla extract
or other essential oils
like lavender (for a yummy smell)


Mix all dry ingredients together
Put on stove on low/ medium heat
Heat and add mixed water & oil, then the food coloring
Take from stove when ball forms
Knead for 5 minutes
Store air tight (maybe cool)


I made the last one about 17 months ago and it is still good!
(and I did not even store mine cold!)
